Overcome Evil with Good

      Johannes Gutenberg is credited with the invention of the movable press. This singular event is prized as the greatest influence on the  Renaissance, the Age of Enlightenment and I believe Church history. The ability to print the Bible and make it available to persons outside the clergy was a huge step toward the reformation. It is amazing when you combine it with Luther's move away from the hierarchy of the church less than one hundred years later. But even though this invention which Johannes said came to him in a moment like a "ray of light", changed everything, was it all worth while?
    How many porn books have been published since then. The word porn comes straight from the Greek pornh which means adultery or sexual immorality. If you think of porn in that light then how many pamphlets, books, cards and letters of porn have been printed through the years. The thought is staggering. Should we have stopped Johannes from following that ray of light? Maybe Hitler was right, lets burn all the books, especially Fhrenheit 451. Well stomping out bad literature by killing the writers or burning their books may not be the best way. You may think this is obvious and senseless to talk about. I might think the same thing except recently I have heard a similar logic being voiced.
       This logic has been applied to the internet. There are countless, literally countless, website that have to do with immorality. Immorality is so common we watch it on t.v. and in movies without hardly a complaint. It is said to power the internet, well that and cute little kittens playing the piano. The need for larger band width was driven by the need for downloading porn. This is sick stuff. But what should we do? Regulate the internet like we do movies? Stop using the internet? Have more parental control over the internet? These are probably all steps that we may have to take. But maybe there is a better way. Publish more good books. Post more Christian literature and blogs, and webpages.  The Bible says in Romans 12:21, "overcome evil with good". We have been silent too long as Christians. We need to start beating back the thorns and weeds. Evil always thinks it has a right to scream and intimidate. But Christians should start screaming back or streaming back. We should be taking back the market place. We need to bring down the lofty thinking of man that has exalted itself against God. We have all authority in Christ to do that. If you think a social page like the one I am thinking about is going the wrong way, get in there and be a force to change it. Post things from you heart. Make a difference. Be smart about, don't put personal details. Don't just play the games. Don't just say mindless jingles. The world needs what you are thinking. Who knows maybe the internet was invented for the Body of Christ to start finding its VOICE and using it. Let's not leave it to the sick. Christ came to heal them.
